Nutrition: What I Avoid

There are a numerous 'foods' I no longer consume. More in fact than is worth even going into in minute details. What I can do is go through general categories of foods.

It is worth pointing out that I am by no means a 'militant' when it comes to food.  As I said previously, it really doesn't figure that large in my life any more on a basic level.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy eating.

But then that is largely because I enjoy what goes into what I eat and the knowledge that it is doing me good.  I realise the important part food has in my life and as such I now refuse to eat things based solely on the criteria that 'it tastes good'.  Again that does not mean I do not eat good tasting food. Quite the contrary.  Pretty much everything I eat tastes good to me. That is because, by and large,I know what goes into it and most of the time I have bought the ingredients and prepared the meal myself.

The most important criteria I now use is 'Is this actually going to provide me with anything other than what it tastes like'?  If the answer is a resounding NO, or that it is yes but to such a limited degree that I could obtain the similar or greater benefits from another, more natural source for little, or no more, effort, then I will not consume it.  It's that simple.  Not only is it that simple, it's also so easy to abide by now that I have long since flushed by body of all remnants of dependence on high fat, high sugar, calorically rich but nutritionally poor foods that it's totally natural to me.

In a nutshell then, a simplified list of foods I avoind are as follows:

- Processed Foods. This includes 'fast' and 'convenience' foods.

- Foods High in Fat – Not Just Saturated Fats.

- Foods High in Salt.

- Refined sugar of any kind.

- Alcohol: Summary of caloric content of Alcohol (link to BBC site)

- Fruit Drinks (unless I make myself from fresh fruit)

- Fizzy Drinks
