Foundations: A Fit & Healthy LifestyleLast Updated on Monday, 03 January 2011 01:10 These days, there are all manor of reasons why people can lapse into a lifestyle that, over time, leads them to a state where they feel unable to deal with the day to day physical stresses that may be placed on them as they go about their day to day lives. Housework, carrying shopping for any length of time, playing with their children, running for busses for example. In addition to this, the availability of energy sources (food and beverages) has, by and large, become all too convenient. There need be little or no effort expended in the acquisition, preparation and consumption of nutrients which to a large degree have become very calorically rich and the the same time relatively nutritionally poor. Taking the sedentary lifestyle and compounding it with the over consumption of readily available high calorific food and drinks leads almost inevitably to problems evident all around. The range and degree of those problems are wide and deep. I can only speak for myself in as much as throughout my life I have had to deal with issues surrounding my consumption of certain food stuffs and the varying degrees of activity I took part in. Anyone that has known me for any length of time will know hat I have never suffered form the classical symptoms of being overweight. That doesn't mean however, that I have not, at varying times in my life, suffered form being seriously unfit. Along with those spells came feelings of depression, inadequacy and low self esteem. I was intimately aware of how I felt and knew I was not functioning at anywhere near the levels of fitness or living anything like a healthy lifestyle but was stuck in a rut for long periods of time. From time to time, I would shake myself out of he stupor and for a while would throw myself wholeheartedly into 'getting fit'. My goals however, were always, relatively, short term. How did I get to where I am now? Simply put, my discovering for myself, and adhering to, some very basic but crucial principles which I will briefly touch on in turn: |
